I take extensive notes by hand. Then never use them. Why? Writing happens in real time, at the keyboard. The prepwork is only to prime the pump : )

Your comment reminds me of the extensive notes I'd always take by hand during college lectures. I'd rarely refer to them later, but the very process of writing them down seemed to help the material absorb into my brain. But I agree, the keyboard is the place where it happens!

By hand is my first draft preference also

You’ve got to do what works! I really wish handwriting a manuscript clicked with me, because I think there would be a more physical connection with the creation. The problem is, the more inspired I feel, the faster I write. I can keyboard quickly enough to keep up with my Muse, but my handwriting gets increasingly illegible!

Thanks for commenting…

I contend that I’m only married to pen and paper because of parochial school and penmanship classes!

I do both. Depending on where I am. But I have not written a book.

On a tangent- plethora is one of my favorite words, the other possibly being tomato and conundrum, contrive, fiend and cunning.

I love tangents, Ana; no apology needed! Those are fine favorites, especially conundrum, which is also one of mine. My wife speaks Spanish, and I know Mirth as Medicine is presented in Spanish and English. So please share your favorites in that language as well!

Camino, balaustrada, esperanza, risa, hercúleo, esfuerzo. Uff! En español tengo tantas. Mi marido dice que se enamoró del español cuando me oyó decir taladradora 🤣

Gracias. I think Spanish is one of the most beautiful-sounding languages. And "Herculean" is fun no matter how you say it!
