"Realistically insert it in dialogue" Not so sure about this last one. In a humorous story this is humorous. In a serious story this is... humorous : )

Yeah, perhaps "insert" isn't the right word. Any backstory info divulged in dialogue has to come about naturally, and in small increments at a time. Whenever an exposition device calls attention to itself, it's usually a fail.
