Indexes, 2.0
Issue #60
Over time I’ve gotten a recurring request from Writing Rhythm readers: “Hey, there are so many issues now. I can’t find what I want!”
Months back, I tried to address this by providing an “Index of Posts,” in which readers could see listings and click through to specific issues or mini-series. If you’re reading this on the Substack app—either by phone or computer—it’s at the top right of the page (and if you’re NOT reading it on the app, why not? Both the Substack app and Writing Rhythm are free, and you’ll get the consummate—or best possible—experience on the platform).
But, did this soothe the complainers? No.
“We need to look up specific terms!” they cried. “We want comments and links on character motivation, or the wordcount of a Young Adult novel, or clarity on what a pantser is. You’ve covered all that information, but now we can’t find it!”
Okay, whiners. In the Christmas spirit, I hereby attempt to fulfill your wishes.
I present to you—in addition to the “Index of Posts”—a brand new “Index of Terms.”
This cost me serious time. The above may or may not be a picture of me, laboring over this new index.
Here’s where you’ll find it on my Writing Rhythm page. If you’re on the app now, look for the title “Index of Terms.”
Here you’ll find explanations and listings and explanations running the gamut of what we’ve discussed over this past two-and-a-half years, from Critiques to Flashbacks to Point-of-view to Writer’s Guilt, and everything in between, and all of it linked. Just click and it’ll bring you to the correct issue(s).
I also pledge to periodically update this new index (and the other ones), as time goes on and more issues come out, making it the Christmas gift that keeps on giving—the “ultimate” present, if you will. Which of course leads us to…
What is consummate?

This is good. I also make sure the subject of any post is in the title. That way readers can search for newsletters that interest them using my Archive.
